BASIX and NATHERS ENERGY RATINGS

BASIX is an initiative by the NSW Government that requires all new dwellings to be designed and built to achieve a 40% reduction in water consumption and 40% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to typical dwellings. Put simply, new dwellings have to use less water and be more energy efficient.

A BASIX certificate is required to be lodged with development applications to Councils. The certificate will specify how the dwelling will use less water and energy than a typical home.  For example, a BASIX certificate for a single dwelling includes commitments such as how much low energy lighting will be used within the dwelling and what size a rain water tank is required to be. A building certifier will check that all BASIX commitments have been built or installed before issuing an occupancy certificate.

A NATHERS certificate accompanies the BASIX certificate and it specifies building materials together with how much insulation will be used in the new home.

Our staff are fully accredited and can provide BASIX certificates for the following types of developments:

  • Single houses and dwellings,

  • Alterations and additions to dwellings,

  • Dual occupancy developments,

  • Swimming pools and spas (that are greater than 40,000 litres),

  • Granny flats,

  • Villas/Townhouses,

  • Multi unit development,

  • Mixed use developments.

Contact us if you are unsure if you require a BASIX certificate or if you require a quote.
